Rasens opprinnelse
Standard schnauzer har vært en del av tysk historie fra i alle fall det 14. århundre. Det antas at deres miniatyr-motstykke ble avlet frem ved å krysse originalen med affenpinscher. Andre mener at pudler og andre svarte spitztyper var involvert i utviklingen av denne hunden.
Den første dvergschnauzeren ble registrert i Tyskland i 1898 og har siden gjort seg kjent som en kjærlig følgesvenn.
