Great until it wasn’t

I have been using this brand for many years. My first dog was on urinary so. Lyric is on this stuff and the new case we just got has made him sick. He has had diarrhea and vomiting for three weeks now. This new case of food looks disgusting. The consistency changed and it never solidifies in the fridge. Now the vet is suggesting a very expensive diet!!!! I have almost a whole case of food I wasted my money on.

New formula is making many dogs sick

My dog has been on this food for close to 10 years and they CHANGED the formula - she has been struggling for months with pancreatitis (which she would get once a year) - it’s been months that she comes off the antibiotics only to have to go back on. I had called my vet a month ago to see if anyone reported the mushy texture of this food as it was different and I was nervous it was bad - after googling today I see they changed the formula - this should have to be reported with prescription foods as my dog has been sick for months on it as I didn’t know it had been changed. So disappointed - have to try to find a new food to transition her to as this has been making her sick for months. Look at reviews on other websites - many sick dogs.

Picky Eater

My beagle has a love/hate relationship with this food. She will eat it for awhile and then she quits. She had end stage Cushings disease.

What a careless decision by Royal Canin!

I have been getting this food for my 13 1/2 year old dog through my vet for the last year and it helped with his gastrointestinal issues. Now you have changed the formula and my dog is suffering from diarrhea. It is not only my dog! There are many reviews and complaints online from many other pet owners in the last 2 months. Prior to this time, there were thousands of reviews online from happy pet owners who said this food really improved the quality of their pet' lives. Why would you change a good thing that was helping so many dogs. And the worst part is that you did not even warn pet owners that you were changing the formula so they have had to deal with sick dogs as a result. This is a veterinary diet. Even I know that you do not change a dog's diet so abruptly. For a dog food company to do this shows negligence and total disregard for the pets you say you care about. I am certainly going to let my vet know what is going on and maybe suggest that they should stop carrying Royal Canin.

Terrible quality and supposedly recipe has changed

I have purchased this product for years. Over time it has become increasingly worse. As of the last two cases I purchased I noticed the smell was different. My dog also began having diarrhea and I stopped feeding her this product and switched to chicken and rice for a few weeks. As I attempted to reintroduce the dog food into her diet last week I opened a new case hoping the prior case was the problem. The first can was unevenly filled which indicates to me a manufacturer issue and a probable air pocket within the can. I gave my dog a scoop and again that evening mixed with chicken and rice. I noticed how moist it was and how oil seemed to surface where I scooped it. The next day I scooped further into the can and hit a pocket of fluid. It was oily and stinky. I immediately opened a second can and again this can was uneven at the surface. I scooped a spoonful and noticed again how moist and oily the food was compared to past cans. I scooped further and again a pocket of stinky oil was towards the bottom. I did reach out to Royal Canin and they opened a case number. The representative on the phone asked several questions and I confirmed can numbers and ingredients. She stated this is a new recipe with additional oils, etc. I found this interesting as nothing shows a new recipe on the can. And my dog started having uncontrollable diarrhea with the prior case, which the representative also verified the numbers and that was a new batch as well. I have sent them numerous pictures through an email link they supplied me. I have no idea if they plan to reach back out. I will not buy this brand again because of this. Let consumers know when a new ingredient or change has been made.

New formula is terrible

My dog has been eating this food for over three years. She has severe IBD and it's the only food she can tolerate. But the formula has changed (batch best buy date is January 2026), the texture is now soft and mushy and she's been getting diarrhea again. I don't know what to do since every other food makes her sick. Why did they change a formula that was working so well?

New Formula is Terrible

The new formula is a swing and a miss. My dog doesn’t like it and so I will ask her vet for something different. This food is for dogs with health issues so I don’t understand changing the formula without notifying the buyers. I’m guessing it was to cut costs but I just couldn’t be more disappointed.

Formula change

Formula change has caused my dog to be sick. This is prescription dog food for a reason. It was good food till they made the change. Going have to check see what other dog food I can purchase now cause this is not working due to the formula change.

New formula is awful

Once upon a time (like a month ago), I would have given this food 5 stars, but the recent change in formula is a no for me (and more importantly, my dog). I’m glad I came here to check because I thought I had gotten a batch of food that went bad or was left out in the heat or something. The consistency was so wet and mushy; nothing like it used to be where it was soft yet firm and you would have to dig it out of the can. My dog ate it fine for a few days, but his poop has been unusual since eating it - very wet with blood in it. Luckily, I found some cans of the old formula at his vet’s office and threw out the other stuff. Hopefully what I found will hold us over while I try to switch him to something else. Such a disappointment as my dog has been eating this food for about 4 years now. He was getting super sick on other foods and this was the only thing I’d found that he consistently liked and made him feel good. Why why whyyyy did the formula change??
