As part of this, our kibble has a unique palability enhancer, utilising a combination of lipids and proteins to ensure excellent palatability, even for veterinary therapeutic diets. This is why the surface of ROYAL CANIN® kibble may feel slightly greasy, but be assured that the overall nutritional value of the kibble is as tailored as possible for your pet.
Answer: ROYAL CANIN® diets utilise very highly digestible ingredients, including importantly, highly digestible proteins, alongside prebiotics to ensure good digestive health. As such, your cat or dog will utilize the majority of the nutrients in the food meaning they are much more likely to produce smaller, firmer and less smelly faeces. It would be very uncommon and unlikely for ROYAL CANIN® diet's to cause loose or foul smelling poop, however it is important that when transitioning on to any new ROYAL CANIN® diet, that a 7 day transition is followed to help avoid any gastrointestinal upset.
Although many pet owners themselves require a gluten free or grain free diet, there is no hard evidence that a gluten free or grain free diet is helpful to your pet. Wheat gluten is used in pet foods as an excellent source of essential amino acids. It complements those from animal based ingredients to help provide the best nutrition for your pet. Gluten is a nutritionally valuable plant protein that is found in wheat, rye, buckwheat, barley and oats. Wheat is the only cereal that contains gliadin – the gluten that causes celiac disease in humans. Celiac disease has never been reported in cats and has only been reported in one breeding line of Irish Setter dogs. Grains used in pet foods are an excellent source of energy and help provide complete and balanced nutrition. The indigestible outer husks are removed by ROYAL CANIN® so they can be easily digested by cats and dogs. The most commonly reported food allergens in cats and dogs are proteins such as beef, dairy, chicken and fish. At ROYAL CANIN® we are hold science at the heart of everything we do. Until there is published evidence that grain free or gluten free diets are beneficial to pets, we will not be producing diets purely to appeal to human based trends.

If your pet has ongoing digestive upset, then be sure to follow up with your Veterinarian to rule out a number of potential causes. As part of this, your Veterinarian may recommend a ROYAL CANIN® veterinary therapeutic diet designed for Gastro Intestinal disorders, or perhaps even a unique hydrolyzed diet if a food allergy is suspected.
While there are many suspected causes for feline acne (including poor hygiene, stress, plastic bowls, suppressed immune system and mites to name a few), there is no true known cause, and diet certainly hasn't been identified as a key risk factor. If your cat suffers from feline acne, your local Veterinarian will be able to help you manage and treat this issue accordingly with regular cleaning and medication if necessary.
